Whether you’re just passing through, new to the area and looking for a new church or simply wanting to take some tentative steps finding our about the Christian faith, come along on a Sunday morning, we’d be delighted to see you.
Sometimes going to church can be a little daunting especially if you’ve haven’t been to church for a while, or if at all! A potential first hurdle in coming to Abbey Church is the fact that we meet in a school. Be reassured that despite not having a (traditional) church building of our own, we’re perfectly normal people, all it means is that we set-up and pack away every Sunday! When you walk in you’ll find chairs instead of pews, a music stand instead of a lectern, a school piano instead of a church organ and not to forget, we’ll be there as well!
Arriving on a Sunday
Parking
There is off street parking at Heron School where we meet. There are a limited number of spaces but there is typically enough for everyone.
Welcomed
When you arrive you’ll be welcomed in the school foyer and given a bulletin which contains information about what’s happening at Abbey Church, you’ll be then shown to a seat.
Our services
Our services start at 10:30 a.m. and typically last between 1¼ – 1½ hours. This organised time together consists of singing from modern and traditional songs, a 30 minute sermon (explaining, encouraging and teaching from the Bible) and prayer. Prayer can sometimes be ‘open’, this simply means that the person leading may give opportunity for anyone to pray a short prayer.
There is also the possible inclusion of any of the following depending on what Sunday you come:
- Communion (see Communion at Abbey Church)
- Sharing of news from overseas Christians that we support with prayers and finances.
- Testimonies
- Welcoming people into the church
